Since Tortuguero is in the rainforest of the Northern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, the only way to get there is by boat or plane. With no roads, it may seem difficult to get to. But it is not that hard. In fact, the entire journey is an adventure!

By far, the easiest way by land to get there is through our package. Stop worrying about how you’re going to get to Tortuguero. We’ll help you out! Our packages include roundtrip transportation from San José to the Dock. You don’t need to plan anything. All you have to do is get picked up at your hotel in San Jose or intermediate points such as Guapiles, get on the bus and follow the guide.
Also, you can drive on your own vehicle, use a rental, or book a shuttle to the docking area.

The easiest way by boat to get to Tortuguero is through our package. It also includes roundtrip fluvial transportation from La Pavona Dock to the Hotel. It is crucial to communicate with us a few days prior to entry, as we operate from 2 docks depending on weather conditions. It can be the Pavona or Caño Blanco. For both options the pick-up time is 10:30 am.
But if you are driving your own vehicle, you can leave it at the parking lot of the Pavona dock for $10 USD per night. So, you will have to take a public boat service, which cost is approximately $10 USD.

The fastest way to get to Tortuguero is by plane on one of Costa Rica’s domestic carriers. The flight from San Jose to Tortuguero is about 30 minutes. And they usually have two flights a day during the high season.
Tortuguero has a small landing strip. From there, it is just a short boat ride to the Hotel. Prices vary but expect to pay between $100-150 per person each way.
